Frequently Asked Questions About the Random Palette Generator

What harmony modes are available?

Seven harmony modes are available: Random, Analogous, Complementary, Split Complementary, Triadic, Tetradic, and Monochromatic. Analogous palettes use adjacent hues for a calm, unified look, Complementary pairs opposite colors for maximum contrast, Split Complementary and Triadic add variety while staying balanced, Tetradic forms a four-color rectangle, and Monochromatic varies a single hue across different lightness levels.

How does the generator work?

The generator picks a base hue on the color wheel and applies your chosen harmony rule to derive the remaining colors. It also tweaks saturation and lightness so each palette feels natural. Everything is computed instantly in your browser — no server required.

What copy formats are supported?

You can copy the entire palette as CSS custom properties (--palette-1, --palette-2, and so on), a JSON array, or a Tailwind config with palette shades. Individual hex codes can be copied by clicking any swatch.

Is it free and private?

Completely free, no sign-up required. Everything runs in your browser — no color data is ever uploaded to a server.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The entire generator works fully offline once the page has loaded, so you can create palettes anywhere.

How does the contrast checker work?

Each swatch displays its WCAG contrast ratio against both white and black text. A color is marked AA-compliant when it reaches the 4.5:1 ratio required for normal-sized text.

How many colors can I generate?

You can generate anywhere from 1 to 10 colors per palette, with 5 colors as the default. Use the number buttons to choose the exact size you need.
