How UUID v4 Works
A UUID v4 is a 128-bit random number displayed in the standard 8-4-4-4-12 hex format (e.g. 550e8400-e29b-41d4-a716-446655440000). The tool generates randomness using the browser's crypto.getRandomValues() API, providing 122 bits of entropy (6 bits are reserved for version and variant). This makes collisions astronomically unlikely — you would need to generate 2^61 UUIDs before having a 50% chance of a single duplicate.

UUID Versions Explained
This tool generates version 4 UUIDs (random). Other versions exist: v1 uses timestamps and MAC addresses (privacy risk), v3/v5 use namespace-based hashing (deterministic), and v7 uses timestamps for sortable IDs. Version 4 is the most widely used because it provides maximum randomness with no embedded information.
