Files to Rename

Paste filenames and build a rename rule to preview the result.

Free Bulk Rename Preview — Plan Renames Before You Apply

Preview bulk file renames with patterns. Paste a list of filenames, build a rule with find & replace, prefix/suffix, counter numbering, and case transforms, and instantly see every old → new pairing. Conflicts are flagged in red so you never accidentally overwrite a file.

Safe by Design

This is a planning tool — nothing is renamed automatically. Review the full preview, then export the original, renamed mapping as CSV to apply with your file manager or favorite batch tool.

Full Rule Engine

Plain-text or regex replacement with capture groups, configurable counters with zero padding, and case transforms combine in a predictable order. Everything runs locally and offline.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Bulk Rename Preview

Does this tool actually rename my files?

No — it is a preview tool. You paste a list of filenames, build a rename rule, and see exactly what every name would become. To apply the changes, download the CSV mapping (original, renamed) and use it with your file manager, a shell script, or a batch-rename utility.

What kinds of rename rules can I build?

Find & replace (plain text or regex, optionally case-sensitive), a prefix and/or suffix, a counter (prefix or suffix numbering with configurable start, padding, and separator), and case transforms (lowercase, UPPERCASE, or Title Case). Rules combine in a predictable order: replace → case → prefix/suffix → numbering.

How does conflict detection work?

After applying the rules, the tool checks whether two different original names would map to the same new name. Conflicting rows are flagged in red with a warning, so you can adjust the rule before applying anything.

How do I create numbered names like 01_photo.jpg?

Set Numbering to "Prefix counter", Start to 1, Padding to 2 (for two digits), and Separator to _ (underscore). The counter increments for each file in list order, producing 01_photo.jpg, 02_photo.jpg, and so on.

Can I use regular expressions?

Yes. Enable the Regex toggle and the Find field is treated as a regex pattern with global matching. The Replace field supports the same substitutions as JavaScript String.replace, including capture groups like $1. Invalid patterns show a clear error on the affected rows.

Is my file list private?

Yes. All renaming logic runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded and the tool works fully offline. The CSV export is generated locally on your device.
