Free ZIP File Preview — Inspect Archives Without Extracting

Preview the contents of ZIP files without extracting them. Drop an archive on the page and browse its folder tree, entry sizes, compression ratios, dates, and CRC-32 values. Text files can be read inline, and individual entries can be downloaded on demand.

Built on the Browser’s Native Parser

A lightweight dependency-free parser reads the central directory directly, and the native DecompressionStream API inflates entries when you need to view or download them. No libraries, no servers, no uploads.

Perfect for Quick Checks

Peek at a downloaded archive before extracting it, verify what a suspicious .zip contains, or grab a single file from a large bundle — all without touching your file system.

Frequently Asked Questions About the ZIP File Preview

Is this tool a ZIP extractor?

No — it inspects ZIP archives without extracting them. It reads the archive's central directory and lists every entry: names, folder structure, compressed and uncompressed sizes, compression method, CRC-32, and modification dates. Text files can be previewed inline, and individual entries can be downloaded one at a time.

How does it work technically?

The file is read in the browser and a lightweight parser locates the End of Central Directory record, then walks the central directory entries. Deflated entries are inflated on demand using the browser's native DecompressionStream API — no extraction libraries, no server, and no uploads.

Can I preview file contents?

Text-like entries (txt, json, csv, html, css, js, markdown, and many more extensions) can be previewed directly — stored entries instantly and deflated entries after a quick inflate. Binary files show their size, method, date, and CRC instead, and can be downloaded as-is.

Are all ZIP files supported?

Standard ZIP archives are supported, including those created by Windows, macOS, and Linux tools. Files compressed with uncommon methods beyond Store (0) and Deflate (8) will still appear in the listing with their method number, but content preview may be unavailable.

Can I extract a single file?

Yes. Click any entry and use the Download button to save just that file — decompressed back to its original bytes — without extracting the whole archive. Multi-file or whole-archive extraction is intentionally not offered here.

Is previewing my ZIP private?

Yes. The archive is parsed entirely in your browser and never leaves your device, so the tool is safe for archives containing sensitive material and works fully offline.
