How This Converts to Binary

Repeated division by 2 — read the remainders bottom-up to get the binary value.

255 ÷ 2 = 127r 1
127 ÷ 2 = 63r 1
63 ÷ 2 = 31r 1
31 ÷ 2 = 15r 1
15 ÷ 2 = 7r 1

Free Hex Converter — Hex to Decimal, Binary & Octal

Welcome to the UtilixVerse Hex Converter — a free, browser-based tool for converting hexadecimal values to binary, decimal, and octal (and back) in real time. Paste any hex value like 0xFF or CAFE, and the tool instantly shows the value in every number system, plus a grouped binary view. Everything runs 100% in your browser — free, private, and offline.

How the Hex Converter Works

Hexadecimal is a base-16 system using the digits 0-9 and the letters A-F. Because one hex digit maps to exactly four binary bits, hex is the most readable way to inspect bytes, memory addresses, and network addresses. The tool accepts 0x…-prefixed or bare hex digits and uses exact BigInt arithmetic, so even 128-bit values convert without rounding.

Where You Meet Hex Every Day

CSS colors (#FF5733),MAC addresses (B4:8B:19:...:A1:44),IPv6 addresses (2001:DB8::1),error codes in Windows (0x80070005), Unicode (U+1F600), and hash digests (SHA-256 is 64 hex characters) all use hex notation. This tool is the fastest way to translate those values into a form you can compute with.

Who Uses This Tool

Web developers working with color codes, low-level programmers reading memory dumps, network engineers decoding MAC and IPv6 addresses, and cryptography students analyzing hex digests all rely on fast hex conversion. No install, no sign-up, and nothing leaves your device.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hexadecimal Conversion

How do I convert hex to decimal?

Each hex digit has a place value that is a power of 16, reading from right to left: 1, 16, 256, 4096… Convert letters to numbers (A=10, B=11, C=12, D=13, E=14, F=15), multiply each digit by its place value, and add. For 2F: 2×16 + 15 = 47. For 0xFF: 15×16 + 15 = 255.

What is hexadecimal used for?

Hexadecimal (base 16) is a compact shorthand for binary — one hex digit represents exactly four bits. It is used everywhere in computing: HTML/CSS colors (#FF5733), memory addresses in debuggers, MAC addresses, UTF-8/Unicode code points, hash digests, and machine-readable machine instructions. Two hex digits always describe one byte.

Why does 0xFF equal 255?

0xFF means the two hex digits F and F. The left F is in the 16s place (15×16 = 240) and the right F is in the 1s place (15×1 = 15), so 240 + 15 = 255. Because one byte holds 8 bits (2^8 = 256 possible values from 0 to 255), 0x00–0xFF is the exact range of a single byte.

How do I convert decimal to hex?

Repeatedly divide by 16 and record the remainders from last to first, mapping 10-15 to A-F. For 250: 250÷16=15 r10 (A), 15÷16=0 r15 (F), so the answer reads FA. The tool also accepts 0x-prefixed input and converts instantly, including negative-free values of any size using exact BigInt arithmetic.

What is the difference between 0x, 0b, and 0o prefixes?

These are the standard prefixes used in code to mark a number's base: 0x or 0X for hexadecimal (0xFF), 0b or 0B for binary (0b11110000), and 0o or 0O for octal (0o377). This tool recognizes all of them, plus unprefixed digits — so you can paste 0xFF, 255, 0b11111111, or 0o377 and get every other representation instantly.

How do hex and binary relate?

Every hex digit maps to exactly four binary bits: 0=0000, 1=0001, 2=0010, …, 9=1001, A=1010, B=1011, C=1100, D=1101, E=1110, F=1111. So 0x3A becomes 0011 1010 in binary — just replace digit by digit. This one-to-four mapping is why hex is the natural way for humans to read binary data.

Is this hex converter free and private?

Yes — completely free, no registration, and 100% private. Every conversion runs locally in your browser; your values are never sent to any server. The tool works offline after the page loads, so you can convert anytime.
