Frequently Asked Questions About the CGPA Calculator

What is CGPA and how is it different from GPA?

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the credit-weighted average of your grade points across ALL completed semesters, while GPA usually refers to a single semester. This calculator builds each semester’s GPA and then rolls them into one cumulative CGPA automatically.

How is CGPA calculated?

For every course in every semester, multiply credits by grade points and add them all up. Then divide by the total credits across all semesters. CGPA = Σ(credits × points) ÷ Σ credits. The calculator does this live as you add semesters and courses.

Can I convert CGPA to a percentage?

Many universities offer a formula — a very common one in India is percentage = CGPA × 9.5 on the 10-point scale. Check your institution’s official rule, since some use 9.5, others 10, and a few use different multipliers. The calculator keeps your CGPA on both 4.0 and 10.0 scales so you can apply your university’s conversion.

Which grade point scale should I use?

Use the 10.0 scale if your transcript reports grade points out of 10 (common in India and many countries). Use the 4.0 scale if you study under the US system with letter grades like A, B+, C. You can switch scales anytime without re-entering your data — just update the grade dropdown values to match.

Do all semesters weigh equally?

No — the CGPA is credit-weighted, so semesters with more credits contribute more. A strong semester with 24 credits moves your CGPA more than a light 12-credit semester. Enter credits accurately and the calculator weights everything correctly.

Is this CGPA calculator free and private?

Yes. It is 100% free with no registration, and all calculations run entirely in your browser. Your semesters and grades are stored only in your own device’s localStorage and never sent anywhere.
