Frequently Asked Questions About the Percentage Calculator

How do I calculate a percentage of a number?

Multiply the number by the percentage divided by 100. For example, 20% of 150 is (20 ÷ 100) × 150 = 30. Our calculator’s "X% of Y" mode does this instantly — just type the percent and the value.

How do I find what percentage one number is of another?

Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. If you scored 34 out of 50, that is (34 ÷ 50) × 100 = 68%. Use the "X is what % of Y" mode and enter 34 and 50 to get the answer immediately.

How do I calculate percent increase or decrease?

Subtract the original from the new value, divide by the original, and multiply by 100. A price moving from 80 to 100 is a (20 ÷ 80) × 100 = 25% increase. A drop from 100 to 80 is a 20% decrease. The "% Change" mode shows this with the sign for you.

How do I find the whole when I know a part and its percentage?

Divide the part by the percentage and multiply by 100. If 30 is 20% of some number, the number is (30 ÷ 20) × 100 = 150. Use the "X is Y% of what?" mode for this calculation.

Is this percentage calculator free and private?

Yes. It is completely free with no registration, and every calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing is ever sent to a server. Perfect for quick math on marks, discounts, tips, and statistics.

Can I use it for grade and marks calculations?

Absolutely. Students commonly use it to convert exam scores to percentages, weight assignments, compute grade contribution, and work out percent increases in grades between tests. For cumulative GPA across semesters, try our CGPA Calculator; for a single semester, the GPA Calculator.
