Redact PDF — Permanently Hide Sensitive Content in the Browser
Protect private information before you share a document. Draw boxes over anything you want hidden — names, account numbers, addresses — right on a live page preview, then apply them to download a redacted PDF. Every step happens locally on your device, so sensitive files never leave your machine.
Frequently Asked Questions About Redacting PDFs
How does PDF Redact work?
Every page is rendered as a live preview. You press and drag to draw opaque boxes over names, amounts, addresses, or any content you want hidden. When you apply, pdf-lib paints those rectangles directly into the PDF.
Can I change the redaction color?
Yes. Choose from the preset colors — black by default, plus gray, red, blue, and green — before you draw.
Does redaction reduce file quality?
No. Redaction only adds opaque rectangles; the rest of the page stays exactly as it was. The rebuilt file can even be slightly smaller after pdf-lib rewrites it.
Are there limits on file size or page count?
No hard limits — the only constraint is your device memory. Most documents redact instantly in the browser.
