Set Up Your Vault

Choose a master password to encrypt your notes. It is never stored or sent anywhere — if you forget it, your notes cannot be recovered.

Free Secure Notes — Encrypted Notes Stored Locally in Your Browser

Welcome to the UtilixVerse Secure Notes tool — a free, private place forencrypted local notes. Set a master password, and every note you write is sealed with AES-256-GCM before it touches browser storage. Your notes never leave your device: no cloud, no account, no server. Lock the vault when you're done and reopen it with your password — free, private, and offline.

How Your Notes Stay Secret

The master password is hardened with PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 at 600,000 iterations plus a random salt into a 256-bit key. Titles and contents are encrypted individually with AES-256-GCM, and each note's authentication tag catches any tampering. Only ciphertext is ever written to localStorage — even someone reading your browser storage sees nothing but encrypted data.

Manage Your Vault

Create, edit, and delete notes, change your master password at any time, lock the vault to wipe the key from memory, or delete the entire vault. The tool remembers whether a vault exists on your device and offers a setup or unlock screen accordingly. Because everything is local, you control the only copy of your data.

Who Uses This Tool

Privacy-conscious individuals keeping recovery codes and private notes, journalists protecting source material, students saving personal records, and teams storing shared secrets locally. No install, no sign-up, and your notes never leave your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions About Secure Notes

Where are my notes stored?

Notes are stored locally in your browser's localStorage under a namespaced key. Nothing is ever uploaded to a server — there is no backend, so there is nothing for anyone (including the site) to read, log, or hand over. Because storage is per-browser, notes do not sync across devices automatically; if you clear your browser data, the notes disappear with it.

How is my data encrypted?

Your master password is stretched with PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 (600,000 iterations) plus a random salt into an AES-256-GCM key. Every note's title and content are encrypted individually with that key before being written to localStorage, and GCM's authentication tag detects any tampering. On disk, only ciphertext exists — there is no recoverable plaintext.

What happens if I forget my master password?

Your notes cannot be recovered. This is by design: the password is never stored or transmitted, and encryption is genuinely end-to-end local. There is no backdoor, recovery question, or reset. Choose a password you can remember (a passphrase works well) and consider keeping a secure copy of important notes elsewhere.

Are my notes safe if someone accesses my browser?

They are as safe as your master password. Anyone who opens your browser still needs the password to decrypt the notes — the stored data is ciphertext. However, an unlocked session keeps the key in memory, so lock the vault when you step away and use a strong, unique master password that isn't stored in the browser.

Can I use the same password as my other accounts?

You should not. This password protects all your private notes, so it deserves to be unique and strong. If it were reused and leaked elsewhere, an attacker could try it here. Use this site's Diceware Password Generator to create a memorable, high-entropy passphrase for your vault.

Does the tool work on multiple devices?

Each browser holds its own encrypted copy. To move your notes, you would need to copy the underlying localStorage data to the other device (which preserves the encryption) or re-enter your notes on the other device. The encrypted format is deterministic, so the same password can unlock the same data on any device.

Is this secure notes tool free and private?

Yes — completely free, no registration, and 100% private. Encryption and decryption run locally in your browser using the Web Crypto API; nothing is sent to any server, and the tool works offline after the page loads.

How to Use the Secure Notes (Local)

Write encrypted notes stored only in your browser — AES-256 protected and synced nowhere. A private scratchpad for recovery codes, keys, or sensitive lists that never leaves your device.

Step-by-Step

  1. 1Open the note editor and set a password.
  2. 2Notes encrypt to localStorage, keyed by that password.
  3. 3Lock and reopen later with the same password.
Tip: Clearing site data or switching browsers erases these notes — they are intentionally not synced. Keep a backup of anything you can't afford to lose.
