Free Line Sorter — Sort Any List Alphabetically, Numerically & More

Welcome to the UtilixVerse Sort Lines tool — a free, browser-based utility that reorders lines in any text alphabetically, numerically, or by length, in ascending or descending order. Paste your list and get a perfectly ordered result instantly — all 100% privately in your browser.

Why Sort Lines?

Organized data is easier to scan and analyze. Sort name lists for mailing labels, order keywords for SEO reports, arrangeprices or quantities numerically, and tidy filenames, IPs, or log entries. Whether you need A → Z or shortest → longest, this tool handles it in one click.

Three Smart Sort Modes

  • Alphabetical — letter-by-letter ordering with natural sort support so item2 sorts before item10.
  • Numerical — orders by the leading number, so 2 oranges correctly precedes 10 apples.
  • By length — shortest to longest lines, handy for spotting tiny or oversized entries.

Full Control Over the Result

Toggle ascending or descending order, ignore case for friendlier ordering, remove duplicate lines, and drop empty lines — all live. The statistics panel shows how many lines were sorted, and the result can becopied with one click or downloaded as a .txt file.

Privacy & Performance

Everything runs entirely in your browser — your text never leaves your device. Lists with tens of thousands of lines are sorted in milliseconds with zero round-trips and no upload limits. The tool works offline after the page loads.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sorting Lines

What does "Sort Lines" do?

It takes the list you paste and reorders every line according to your chosen sort — alphabetically, numerically, or by length — in either ascending or descending order. It is perfect for organizing name lists, keywords, prices, log entries, IPs, or any other column of text you want in a predictable order.

What is the difference between alphabetical, numerical, and by length sorting?

Alphabetical sorts by letters, so "10 apples" comes before "2 oranges" because "1" sorts before "2" as text. Numerical sorts by the number a line starts with, so "2 oranges" correctly comes before "10 apples". By length sorts from the shortest line to the longest (or the reverse), which is useful for finding short vs long entries like filenames or passwords.

What does "Natural sort" do?

Natural sorting understands numbers embedded inside text, so "item2" sorts before "item10" — just like a human would expect. Without it, a plain alphabetical sort would put "item10" before "item2" because "1" is smaller than "2". This is enabled by default and makes file lists and version numbers sort sensibly.

What does "Ignore case" do?

When enabled, "Apple" and "apple" are treated as the same for ordering purposes, which usually matches how people expect lists to be sorted. When disabled, uppercase letters are compared separately, so "Apple" would sort before "banana" but after "Zebra" depending on the exact letter codes.

What do "Remove duplicates" and "Remove empty lines" do?

"Remove duplicates" drops repeated lines so each line appears once in the sorted output. "Remove empty lines" removes blank lines entirely. Both are off by default; enable them when you want a clean, deduplicated, tightly-packed result instead of preserving every line you pasted.

How are blank lines handled when sorting?

By default blank lines are kept and sorted into the result — empty strings sort to the top in ascending order and to the bottom in descending order. If you would rather not see them at all, turn on "Remove empty lines" and they will be dropped and counted in the statistics panel.

Will the tool work on very large lists?

Yes. Sorting runs entirely in your browser using the built-in optimized sort, so even lists with tens of thousands of lines are reordered in milliseconds. Because everything happens locally, there is no file size limit imposed by an upload or a server.

Is this Sort Lines tool free and private?

Yes — completely free, no registration, and 100% private. Your text is processed entirely in your browser with plain JavaScript; nothing is ever uploaded, stored, or logged. The tool also works offline after the page loads, so you can sort lists anywhere.

How to Use the Sort Lines

Sort lists of text alphabetically, reverse-alphabetically, or by line length — and strip duplicates in the same pass. Clean up imports, name lists, CSV-ish outputs, or any jumbled set of lines.

Step-by-Step

  1. 1Paste your unsorted lines.
  2. 2Choose the order (A→Z, Z→A, or by length).
  3. 3Optionally remove duplicate lines, then copy the result.
