Free Metadata Remover — Strip EXIF & GPS Data Losslessly

Welcome to the UtilixVerse Metadata Remover — a free, private tool that removes EXIF, GPS coordinates, timestamps, and comments from your images. Drop a JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF, and download a clean copy that isbyte-for-byte identical in quality — only the hidden data is gone. All processing happens 100% in your browser.

Lossless by Design

Most "metadata removers" re-encode your image, which can blur it, change colors, and inflate the file size. This tool instead rewrites the file container: for JPEGs it drops the APP1 (EXIF) and other APP/COM segments; for PNGs it discards ancillary chunks; for WebP it filters EXIF/ICC/XMP chunks; for GIFs it removes comment and application extensions. The pixels are never touched, so the output is pixel-identical to the input — just lighter.

Why Clean Metadata Before Sharing

A phone photo can embed your home address as GPS coordinates, yourcamera's serial number, and the exact time you took the shot. Screenshots and documents can carry author and software fingerprints. Sharing originals leaks all of that. Running files through this remover before sending them means the recipient sees only the image — nothing more.

Private & Free

There is no upload, no server, and no tracking. The cleaning logic is plain JavaScript that executes on your machine, so the tool even works offline once loaded. Verify the result afterwards with the Metadata Viewer to confirm everything was removed.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Metadata Remover

What metadata does this tool remove?

For JPEGs it removes all APP segments and comment segments, which covers EXIF, GPS coordinates, camera make and model, timestamps, thumbnails, ICC profiles, IPTC, and XMP. For PNGs it removes every ancillary chunk, including tEXt, zTXt, iTXt, tIME, gAMA, pHYs, eXIf, and ICC profiles. For WebP it removes EXIF, ICC, and XMP chunks, and for GIFs it removes comment and application extensions.

Does the image quality change?

No. The tool rewrites the file container at the byte level and never re-encodes the image data, so the pixels and compression are identical to the original. Only the metadata segments are dropped. The cleaned file is often slightly smaller because the EXIF data is gone.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. The file is processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded, transmitted, or stored anywhere, and the tool works offline once the page has loaded.

Which file types are supported?

JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF are supported. Other formats are rejected with a clear message. If you need to clean another format, a common workaround is to convert it to PNG or JPEG first, then run it through this tool.

Can I recover the removed metadata?

No. Removing metadata is a one-way operation — once the segments are dropped and the file is saved, the information is gone permanently. Keep an untouched backup of the original if you think you might need the data later, and only share the cleaned copy.

Is stripping metadata enough to protect my privacy?

For the metadata embedded in the file, yes. However, remember that the pixels themselves can still identify a location (a recognizable street sign or landmark), and that some sites add their own tracking when you upload. For maximum privacy, strip metadata before sharing, avoid re-using an unmodified original, and be mindful of what is visible in the photo itself.

Is this metadata remover free and private?

Yes — completely free, no registration, and fully private. All processing runs locally in your browser, so there is no server component, no logs, and no way for anyone else to see the files you clean.
